In line with Schiller's concept that "the most beautiful of all works of art is the construction of true political freedom," the Schiller Institute in America has published a number of books since 1984, to encourage the creation of a new, golden renaissance, in the true spirit of the "American Intellectual Tradition."
Among the most important of these books are the following:
Friedrich Schiller, Poet of Freedom, Vols. I, II,III and VI. These are a collection of Schiller's most important works, newly translated by members of the Schiller Institute. Included are dramas--William Tell, Don Carlos and The Virgin of Orleans; aesthetical writings--Letters on the Aesthetic Education of Man, Theater Considered as a Moral Institution, On Naive and Sentimental Poetry and On Grace and Dignity; and historical works--What Is, and to What End Do We Study, Universal History and The Legislation of Lycurgus and Solon.
Friedrich Schiller, Poet of Freedom, Volume IV, a Memorial Edition, will feature translations by Marianna Wertz, Schiller Institute Vice President, whose exemplary life and work, reflects Schiller's concept of the Sublime. Included are poems The Dance, The Artists, The Pledge, The Walk, The Count of Hapsburg and others; Maria Stuart, as well as essays on Schiller' s poetic method.
